چکیده
Collective phenomena in strongly nonequilibrium systems interacting with electromagnetic field are considered. Such systems are described by complicated non-linear differential or integro–differential equations. The aim of this review is to show that many nonlinear collective phenomena can be successfully treated by a recently developed method called the Scale Separation Approach whose name is due to the idea of separating different characteristic space–time scales existing in nonequilibrium statistical systems. This approach is rather general and can be applied to various nonequilibrium physical problems, several of which are discussed here. The problems considered not only serve as illustrations of the method but are quite important by themselves presenting interesting physical effects, such as

We first write down a very general description of nonlinear classical electrodynamics, making use of generalized constitutive equations and constitutive tensors. Our approach includes non-Lagrangian as well as Lagrangian theories, allows for electromagnetic fields in the widest possible variety of media (anisotropic, piroelectric, chiral and ferromagnetic), and accommodates the incorporation of...

A new mechanism for T and CPT violation is reviewed, which relies on chiral fermions, gauge interactions and nontrivial spacetime topology. Also discussed are the possible effects on the propagation of electromagnetic waves in vacuo, in particular for the cosmic microwave background radiation.

The status of Compton scattering by the nucleon at energies of the first and second resonance is summarized. In addition to a general test of dispersion theories and a precise determination of polarizabilities, the validities of four fundamental sum rules are explored. Recommended averages of experimental values for the electromagnetic polarizabilities and spin-polarizabilities of the nucleon a...
